Once again the meaning of a stroll is quite ambiguous. This time it means twenty-thousand steps. Our first destination was the stadium where the first world cup final was held in 1930. Along with it there was a large museum full of old cups, pictures and memorabilia. It was as interesting as possible for someone who can't read any of the signs. I recognised some of the more major players in the photos - Maradona, Pele and the England 1966 winning team being some.

The stadium was enjoyable to sit around in. It wasn't quite a tour but more of a chance to experience it yourself. In one of the stands there is a large tower that we took a lift up. It gave views out over a large section of Montevideo, it even allowed us to see the river.

The river was exactly our next point of refuge. After a bit more than 30 minutes walking we had reached our destination. Surprisingly the Sandy beach was actually the best beach we had encountered throughout our travels. We didn't have much to compare it to though, only 4 of the locations were near the sea and most didn't really have beaches. I took a brief nap in the lazing afternoon Uruguyan sun. It was nice how deserted it was. Despite it being 22°c the locals don't really flock to the beaches until the summer time.

There were however a few more locals lurking in the nearby park and along the boardwalk. Everyone had a flask with them to fill up their cup of tea that everyone seems to drink in Argentina and Uruguay. It was nice to just wander around the quietish streets of Montevideo. It has made a nice resting point out of the final stop of our trip. Emma seems quite sad that we are to return to England very shortly. Maybe there is a slight nudge of excitement for her at the prospect of patting her cats though (crazy cat lady).
