Surprisingly to me, we managed to make it to our first destination; Quito! Despite a few interesting moments in Madrid airport (as a note to myself for a later time. Never going there again). I left my phone in a security box after I'd been asked to unpack my bag and go through the security three times. To the horror of the four security guards with their minimal English. Followed then by an accidental forty minute wait in what was potentially the wrong queue for a flight to Sao Paulo in Brazil - not the desired Guayaquil in Ecuador. Nevertheless we made it. My first impressions as i write this entry whilst in the taxi from Quito Airport to the first accommodation are definitely good. I was not expecting too much in the way of infrastructure and general well-presentedness. How glad i was to be proven wrong... already! Quito is delightful. It's set in a quaint selection of valleys shrouded in the mystery of high cloud and faint droplets of rain. I can't wait to get exploring this fascinating place.
