It was up and leave in Chiclayo as we were keen to get to the next destination before dark. After having only a brief wait in the bus terminal watching the chaotic confederations cup match that was Mexico vs the hosts Russia (a come back, a red card, a disallowed goal due to the new video referee). We were onto our delightful coach. Everyone had said how nice and spacious the buses in Peru were, they were not wrong.

There wasn't too much to see on our journey, 80% seemed to just be a straight road with desert either side, the occasional town and mountain sticking out from the otherwise perfectly flat ground. After 4 hours of this we were in Trujillo.

Trujillo was not our final destination however, it was the small surfing and fishing village just 10km down the road of Huanchaco. During the taxi ride, to Emma's delight, we heard the first few notes of a popular Ed Sheeran song (don't ask me which, I genuinely have no idea, they all sound the same to me). A smile lit up her face and she prepared to sing. But wait... this was no ordinary Ed Sheeran song, for a random Spanish speaking man then started singing. Confusion now clouded Emma's face until later in the song Ed took over and Emma claimed this song was "the best song ever". That was a questionable claim...

Upon dropping off our belongings we decided to trek to the beach (all 100m of it) and find out what was going on. It seems a pretty good place to surf. Lots of long breaks and plenty of people were surfing, without it being too crowded. Other than that it had a pretty similar feel to most foreign, seaside resorts; the dodgy sunglasses sellers, the bars and restaurants that filled the seafront. Yet there seemed to be thing missing... cash points. As it turned out there is only one in the entire village (basically a town with it's size) and it had run out of cash... woops. Thankfully we had some left over from the last place and we were able to change some dollars at a tourist agency for a reasonable rate.

I then had the daily struggle of Emma being hungry, no, "starving". So a restaurant was quickly needed. We were able to sit outside in the mild evening until one cricket flying around too many was enough for Emma to finally demand going inside. Nevertheless Emma was able to make a dent into her monster fish meal (zero clue what kinds of fish were present).

Tomorrow we will try and make use of our one full day here and try and go surfing. First surf in the Pacific Ocean.
