Day 18: Wandering through Lima

After all of the adventures and excursions of our time so far we decided that Lima would be a good opportunity to wind down a bit and relax before Arequipa and Cuzco. Thus we decided to take a bus into a different part of Lima - Miraflores. Supposedly hailed as the nice touristy area.

The first stop was the parque Kennedy, named after John F. Kennedy for reasons unknown. This was a place in mind of Emma for the reason of it being a centre of a cat sanctuary. Volunteers help rehome and in general look after cats from the park. Thousands of cats have been rehomed in the last 25 years. Emma couldn't have enough of simply sitting and watching the cats relax in the sanctitude of the park.

Further into the park and we see a group of people gathering around in a circle. Of course we had to go and investigate. All it turned out to be was a speaker giving off music for old people to dance to. They were loving the stepping from side to side on a mild winter's Saturday afternoon. Onto the markets. There was a street that within 100m had about 15 large markets leading off from it. After picking up several touristy items it was time for Emma to try on the alpaca wool jumpers. After trying on near to 50, she was still unable to find one she liked. Maybe another market? None of them quite seemed to fit the bill despite looking very comfortable. It's annoying not having more space to be able to pick up more items on our travels. So many items are fascinating but are either too big or would break. We did however manage to buy a pan flute. After having several pisco sours and some Peruvian beers in an Irish pub it was time to rest up before the next bus journey. Hopefully we can find a better bus than the last one, for this journey is over 12 hours long. We looked at the possibility of flying but at £75 each it would have been a bit of a stretch.
