Day 48: Continuing down Chile

The day had come to leave La Serena and head onto Valparaiso. It's very difficult to get too settled when you're spending normally two nights in a place. La Serena will be one of the places that went down quite well in my estimations. Breakfast was excellent again before we gathered all of our belongings and tried to cram them into our rucksacks as best as possible. I swear each time they get heavier... We could really do with finding a laundrette, the last one was in Cusco. We ventured with our heaving bags to the nearby bus terminal in search of the next bus to Valparaiso. Turned out it was just over 2 and a half hours away! Not ideal, but allowed us to get some lunch - a chicken and avocado sandwich. We also ordered a Budweiser each but the waitress really struggled to understand what we were saying. They must pronounce it differently here or something... It was the closest beer we'd got to a home comfort and it went down well.

The mere 7 hours of the bus journey went by quickly thanks to powering through half a season of billions on Netflix. Emma stayed nice and quiet thanks to a book. I'm almost certain that she didn't understand what was going on in the book the entire time but it kept her quiet when she was awake. We arrived in Valparaiso in search of our accommodation. It was only just round the corner but we couldn't get in! We had to camp out at a rowdy cafe to get some wifi to try and get in contact with our guy. Nevertheless this was an opportunity for a burger with avocado on, swilled down with papaya juice.

We successfully contacted our host and were able to get into the apartment. As we entered the apartment, Emma spotted the hosts cat! What a friendly cat it was too. After teasing the cat with the lace of a shoe the cat decided to jump onto our bed and thus fall asleep on my shoulder. Cats are very bizarre. I'm looking forward to exploring Valparaiso tomorrow.
