Day 54: Plaza hop

We were initially told to pack our things and basically check out for 11. It transpired that this wasn't entirely necessary as no-one else was coming in that day. After this manic pack we headed into the main area of Mendoza.

I didn't realise quite how dead it would be on a Sunday. On the Saturday it had been bustling with many people in all of the shops and taking up all of the pavement. It was a ghost town in comparison now. No shops were open and only a few restaurants were open. What were people up to on a Sunday? We walked to the bus station and got our tickets for the upcoming night bus to Cordoba. An 11pm bus, we hadn't taken one so late before so it was going to be interesting. The map showed there to be a large plaza in the centre with 4 smaller ones in a square around it. Two blocks diagonally away from the main one. We decided to walk around every single one of them and explore.

The main plaza was basically a big park. It was full of people enjoying their lazy Sundays. Kids playing football were everywhere. Emma got herself some more candyfloss. This time it was an absolutely massive one. We sat down on a park bench so that she could get through it. Our view was hilarious - a few kids trying to do parkour. They were trying to jump over fences and do tricks. The best part was that they just weren't very good.

As we went around the plazas they slowly got nicer. Every plaza had a children's play area in and a fountain. The fountains got fancier as we went around. In one of the plazas there was a family that practiced volleyball. It seems like everyone in the entirety of Mendoza was relaxing in parks or their homes and not doing any work. We eventually decided to try and get some dinner. This proved to be a bit of a struggle. You wouldn't expect there to be too many issues with getting dinner at 7pm but there was. Naturally a lot of the restaurants weren't open on a Sunday full stop, but the majority of others only opened at 8pm. We eventually found a pizza place that was open for business. They did an excellent home beer.

We accidentally spent a little bit too long enjoying the beer and we ended up having to rush a bit in the reasonably long walk to the bus station but we made the bus quite comfortably in the end. The bus was very bizarre. I've never seen them take so long to get people onto the buses. The amount of stickers that they'd put on your bus tickets was just silly. Emma complained that the bus wasn't comfortable enough. This was an odd bus.
