Day 57: A few litres of water

By the end of the bus journey there was only one other person on the bus to Puerto Iguazu. We disembarked, bought our ticket to Buenos Aires for the following day and then headed to the hotel. Scenes as they gave us a king sized bed! What was this sudden rush of luxury?

Lunch was consumed before we got the local bus to the national park. It was so much hotter here - Over 30°c! We paid for our ticket and went through towards the train. It was a nice slow train journey that ambled it's way around to the devil's throat viewpoint.

You had to walk over walkways suspended over large sections of lake and river. We spotted some large fish down in the water below. Eventually we made it in the sweltering heat to the end of the gangway. The views were absolutely stunning. Thousands of litres a second of water were being hurtled off the side of the rocks and down into the mysterious depths, shrouded by spray.

We stayed here for a little bit to take some pictures. There was still other trails with different viewpoints that we needed to enjoy. As we got back to the train stop to go to the next area we saw a couple of small mammal type things. They seemed quite friendly so we went over an had a look. They seemed to be a strange cross of anteaters and raccoons as far as I could tell. We patted the more docile one before wandering slightly onwards. As we did this more and more of the pack of small mammals appeared. There must have been around 20 of the pesky critters sniffing and exploring the area.

This sense of wildlife was compounded by around ten blue birds. They had a ring of blue around their eye. They seemed quite curious as to what was going on and what food they could scavenge. In the next area we noticed three toucans up in the trees. They were a lot closer than when we had seen them in the Amazon. This was a lot easier too! We didn't have to wade through mud and be stung by ants this time to see their colourful beaks.

More views greeted us and we were able to see even more waterfalls. I think it's the largest network of waterfalls in one place in the world. The amount of individual waterfalls was almost countless. Emma had a constant beaming smile on her face like a small child that had just seen it's first playful puppy. This was the moment that she had been waiting for all of the trip. Not just the 20 hour bus journey but the entire South American trip. Expectations definitely were met. Tomorrow we get to see it from the Brazilian side. You get a different view and it's an excuse to go to Brazil for a little bit and say we've been there.

Dinner was an absolute delight; steak and red wine. We experienced the best service all trip. The waiter came and presented us with the wine, allowed me to try it before pouring our glasses more. If he saw that I was running slightly low in my glass he would top it up. This was not something I had experienced before and I didn't want it to stop. The steak was as good as the service. So tender and the perfect amount of juice to moisten. They do steak right in Argentina. This was an excellent day.
